View From: Our Squad

stress

As much as I hate to admit it, it seems like fat boys here to stay which pretty much rules out any signings this window.

The problem is what with the players leaving we really are at the breaking point or players. Even incorporating youth teamers with little or no experience we can barely put out a side these days.

Take our squad:

Strikers:

Ameobi
Carroll (bit player from last year)
Ranger (never played a full first team game)
Smith? (3 years no goals)

Midfield:

Nolan
Jonas (for now)
Duff
Butt (for now)
Guthrie
Lua Lua (Never played a full game)
Baheng (never played at all for the first team in a competative match)
Barton

Defence:

Coloccini (Dropped last year for being shite, wants to leave)
Beye (For now)
Taylor
R Taylor (dropped at the end of last season had a bad start)
Enrique (injury prone but our only leftback!)
Kadar (never played a full 90 minutes for the first team)

This makes our best lineup:

——————-Harper——————-

Taylor ——–Taylor—-Colo———-Enrique

Jonas——–Guthrie—–Barton———Duff

—————–Nolan / Lua Lua———–

——————–Carroll——————–

Just four injuries (Carroll ankle, Taylor, Enrique hamstring, Guthrie) remember last season we had about ten at one point, and the team becomes:

——————-Harper——————-

R.Taylor ——–KADAR—-Colo———-DUFF

Barton———-SMITH—-NOLAN———JONAS

——————–Lua Lua———————-

——————–AMEOBI———————-

A makeshift leftback with no pace, a completely untried youngster in the heart of defence with Colocrappy and R taylor as right back (the man u game spring to mind) unless by some miracle we keep Beye.

In midfield the ineffective Captain Smith and red card in waiting Barton.

Upfront we have Ameobi wandering round on his own unless we throw on the completely untried Ranger. The only support they would have is from Lua lua (again good prospect but no experience. He was only a bit part player for Doncaster remember) and Jonas (and we all know what his crossing is like).

Not trying to be negative but thats the reality of it.

We struggled so badly when Martins, viduka, and Owen were injured and now are without all of them and Lovenkrands (who would have been fantastic in the championship with his pace, certainly a better prospect than Smith, Barton or Nolan).

Carroll may be our saviour this season but he’s going to have to do it almost single handedly with only Ameobi for a partner or more likely this Nolan behind one striker formation that Chris has been trying in most of the friendlys.
