I am hanging my neck out here but I think he may have a decent season. He’s been made vice captain so he is obviously in Hughton’s plans and he has apparently had a very good pre-season.

I like the lad a lot because I have never seen anyone work so hard, he could quite easily have given up after some of the injuries he has had and the general bad luck but he is a complete grafter and I fully expect him to get off the mark this season and kick on from there. I know that you can’t simply replace quality with hard work, but I firmly believe that Smith has the quality and the hardwork, he just hasn’t shown it for us due to injuries and the like. He would not have got a move to Manuere if he was crap as Fergie simply doesn’t get it wrong (Djemba Djemba excluded from that statement).

He has been linked with moves away again this summer but has not mumured anything about going unlike some such as bassong, he has just got on with it in a completely professional manner, as some other players have in all fairness, and for this I feel he should be applauded. His agent came out spouting some shit but an agent is an agent at the end of the day and there out to make money like the rest of us are.

Basically I wanna no first of all if anyone else still has anytime for him after what can only be described as a pretty diabolical Newcastle career, and secondly, does anyone echo my opinions that he may actually score one or two in the CCC this season?
