NUFC 0 Bristol City 0 – Video
Kevin Nolan, a player who has the fan’s split 50/50, some suggest that he has found his level in the Championship and some are still questioning his lack of fitness and the ability to complete a full 90 minutes without his hand’s on his knee’s, well, at least he’s saying the right things.
Speaking to the Miles Starforth, Nolan said of how amazed he is at the amount of Championship teams that are wanting to beat NUFC, it’s not a surprise to any of us, most of us knew (without being deluded) that we would be the team that everyone wanted to beat, take Blackpool for example, the “Paint the town Tangerine” campaign resulted in a cup final like atmosphere and Blackpool, although already a good side, produced an excellent display, simply because NUFC were visiting, Nolan said of the game…
“I heard Ian Holloway saying that beating Newcastle was better than being in the Champions League!”
“I find that sort of thing astounding – but that’s what we’re up against.”
“People want to beat us, and when people do, or even get a draw, you can see by the way they celebrate what it means to them.”
“There are a lot of experienced lads here. They’ve played in the Premier League, and they know that each team will give their all against us.”
“Teams won’t hide against us – they’ll come and try to make a name for themselves.”
“We need to keep plugging away up until Christmas, and see were we are from there.”
“There’s a tight-knit group here and everybody supports each other. We’re all enjoying the football, and we’re trying to get the fans what they want, which is results.”
It’s true that teams are raising the bar, but by the standard’s I’ve seen so far, we will have to be unlucky to finish outside of the play-off’s at least, which makes me worry about our squad size and depth.
With Shola out, Harewood obviously lacking fitness, Steven Taylor, Colocinni are doubtful for the trip to Forest, it makes for a worrying time against a Forest side improving in form.
It is good to hear that Danny Simpson want’s to stay longer than the January loan deal, and in honesty, whilst he may not be brilliant, he is improving game by game.
If January comes and the loan deal’s are all away back to their respective clubs, we could be looking at a torrid time come early 2010, although, seeing as there 200 consortiums wanting to buy us, one of them a gold mining bar owner in Kazakhstan – thing’s might not be so bad.
Bring on Saturday, Internationals ruin my fun.
