Newcastle have confirmed via their official website that Fabrice Pancrate has signed for the club.
The former PSG winger has signed until the end of the current season after a successful two week trial.
He appeared for the reserves on Tuesday night as Newcastle beat Hartlepool 3-2 in front of 1382 fans at St James’ Park.
Pancrate had a similar trial with Sheffield United earlier this season though he wasn’t offered a contract. And in January there were some mild rumours of interest from Everton.
How good he is is hard to tell but the powers that be (not Hughton) have decided to bolster our squad with a player whose credentials are questionable.
With the transfer window closed our only option is to pick up freebies and loans at the moment. However this smacks once again of Ashley trying to gain promotion on the cheap with no consideration for long term planning.
All being well Pancrate will make his debut against Preston on Monday night wearing the number 21.
The match is live on Sky Sports 1 with a 7:45pm kick off.

5:38 PMI posted somewhere else, he’s a bit like Jonas but with pace. Seems like the end product is a bit dodgy, but we need bodies right now, so he fits the bill.
What we have to be concerned about is the short-term thinking that this signing shows. Absolutely no planning for next season whatsoever.

6:11 PMhope this doesn’t mean that Guthrie gets dropped now because he’s our most creative midfielder by a mile.
