In a year that saw Newcastle United fall into the Championship, be ridiculed by media, put up for sale, have St James Park be rebranded (well almost) it is only right that we are happy that this year is almost over, and we do have that small lead at the top of the table to be happy about…
Let’s face it, 2009 has been a bit of a bitch when all said and done, we’ve had very little to shout about but on the pitch at least, we seem to be turning the corner, sitting 10 points clear at Xmas is a bit of a kick in the nuts of the media that predicted we would “do a Leed’s” and yes, it is only early days, but we have a base for promotion and it’s looking more and more likely that we will go straigt back up – OK, so our problems will start again if we do, so what?
As far as the players and Chris Hughton are concerned, I think a big thanks is in order from us to them, we may not be playing pretty football but we are solid, we have a bit of quality in the side, and also we have an excellent work ethic – so well done to Chris and the lad’s for at least showing us that all is not lost.
Mike Ashley though is a different matter altogether, he can go and get stuffed (turkey/stuffing, you see, it’s genius that) – I can’t bide the man and hope that Rudolph see’s fit to shit on his lawn tonight, the thought of a huge parcel of crap for him to unwrap is rather appealing to me. I blame him for all things wrong with NUFC now, he doesn’t have the Xmas balls to come out and speak about the whole debacle, choosing to hide behind Llambias, who, in turn, is full of bright ideas, a bit like rebranding St James Park, great idea Del Boy – erm, not really, it’s ridiculous. I’m finding myself ranting here so I will stop, but it’s safe to say, Mike and Derek, I will not be relaying my fistive cheer to you.
It is the season to be jolly, we are top of the league, but it is next season I worry about – the uncertainty of January worries me sick, if our loan deals all decide to return to their respective clubs, we are seriously short staffed, and I doubt very much that the money available to Hughton will see any quality arrive, I hope I’m wrong, but we need to build this squad to take us into the Premiership, and stay there.
2010 is looking marginally better than 2009 already, what with the imminent takeover by the fans…sorry, I have to stop myself, I simply don’t see it happening any time soon, 2010 is looking better on the pitch, not behind the scenes, we will still have the same old uncertainty of what will happen next, what will be the next ludicrous decision they take, perhaps they will try and rename the the players, maybe Colocinni @ Vidal Sasoon, Shola @ Blackpool Pleasure Beach, or maybe even, Barton @ Big Mac Meal – could be anything given their stupidity.
But, as I realise yet again that I’m rambling, I’d like wo wish you all a Merry Xmas and a prosperous and promotion party filled 2010 – with a bit of luck, there will me a Miracle on Barrack Road that will see us free mrom Mike and his mess, now that would make for a very Happy Xmas.
All the best to you all, and good luck for 2010
