surgery

It’s gone beyond inexcusable that we can now be into our third campaign without adequate cover in the left back position…

In my opinion this is the ultimate priority. A game doesn’t pass by without me worrying about it being only a matter of time before Enrique picks up an injury, the consequences of which would evaporate our attacking options severely.

I was initially frustrated at the likelyhood that Simpson may not have been offered a contract last week, but on reflection that might not have been so a pressing issue.  I’ve always thought Colocinni would be more than capable of covering that position, good in posession, can pick a pass and pacey, but of course that would leave a gaping hole in the middle.  Another area of the pitch that we are seriously short on in cover, but for some reason we don’t seem too alarmed about.
I’d just like to reiterate at this point, as I have done in countless posts before…Ryan Taylor is NOT a full back
Basically if we could keep our back four intact, there wouldn’t be any cause for concern, but we’re NUFC at the end of the day and the chances of one, more or all of them breaking down before the season are very high.

We’d all love another RW with the energy or guile who could compliment our left hand side, but at this moment I can’t see us finding yet alone affording anyone, whilst Guthrie who by no stretch of the imagination is wide midfielder has proved he can cover this position (although very adequately)
I do however worry how playing him out of position will effect his development. I like Guthrie but suspect he’s a fragile character.

I’d just like to reiterate at this point, as I have done in countless posts before…Ryan Taylor is at BEST cover for this position.

Another option for this slot wold be to shift Jonas over to this position, after all he is right footed. This could open the door for Enrique to play LM, thus emphasising the importance of LB. It might not work, just a thought.

The creative CM issue has been as long standing as the LB one, but whilst our current workman like midfielders have grafted their way to the top of the league I think it’s proven that it’s a luxury we don’t need at this level afterall, however this would be paramount in the league above.

For all Rangers promise, Lovenkraands purple patch in front of goal, Carroll’s presence and Ameobi’s…..erm. I think we still need a goal scorer, an out and out sniffer. Like Forest have in Earnshaw.

Some people had reservations over Beckford, but personally I thought he might have been the final piece in our CF jigsaw, perhaps I’m an old romantic but his signing had the hallmark of our last promotion campaign and the timing of Coles purchase, both similar players at that stage of their career in my opinion.
Nobody can deny that Beckford, although doing it in a lower league has a natural eye for goal. Anyway, that’s gone but the need to get a goalscorer in, hasn’t.

All in all, a lot of positions need addressing should we go up. I’d say full on surgery, but at this moment in time from all those issues, I’d say LB and CB cover would be priority over any first team signings.

And if we we’re being greedy, a bit of cash spent on a proven goalscorer.

Beckford? He’s really been on fire since the Man U game. Not.

I’ve never rated either his class or his character. He just wants a big payday.

Yeah, talking to a couple of Leeds fans and they don’t think he’ll make it in the higher leagues. Erratic and suspect attitude were mentioned hy the lad’s I spoke too..we’ve had/have plenty of them!

Back up for Enrique, watch African Nations Cup; 16 year old Left Back for Zambia, he’s solid and very skillful and very strong and good at getting forward just like enrique. He made his National team debut at 15 years old and has played 20 time already for his country. He plays in Armenia and I can’t imagine him costing too much money in transfer fee and wages. If we dont’ sign a big big club will sign him soon believe me.

For midfield creativity there is another Zambia player Rainford Kalaba check him out.

Zambia qualified for the Quarter finals today and you can see both players in action against Egypt on Monday as both fight for a place in the Semi’s
