Why are we suddenly expecting Hughton to be a different person? We know what he is don’t we? We know he isn’t the real deal in terms of being a full manager…
He’d taken some shit off the fans for quite a long time last season and at the start of this one, which had magically disappeared into the ether once we got to the top and have stayed there since.
Now we’re having a bit of a wobble, part of which is no doubt the lack of cover in certain places, slowly but surely the spotlight is starting to fall back on Hughton again. Now the knives are starting to be removed from their sheaths again.
“We need a target” they all scream.
“We have to have someone to blame, we’re only a few points clear now“
Let’s go for Hughton. He’s an easy target.
Fickle? Surely not?
He may well be ’soft’ in terms of his lack of standing up to Ashley. But he’s never claimed to be something he isn’t. He’s never pretended to us that he runs the full show, whilst skulking back to his office to a different reality. It’s as plain as day who and what he is.
He may well be a ‘cxckxxcker‘ in many people’s eyes, but he has more dignity than those who call him so. Where’s the credence in now criticising someone for being what they’ve always been, now that there are some slight signs of cracks appearing?
We don’t know we’re born having Hughton. Yes, that’s right. We really don’t know we’re born. He’s performed miracles in getting us to where we are. For what we’ve achieved this season, under his supposed (lack of managerial) talent, then it’s nothing short of incredible. That’s without even mentioning the all star team of comedy chimps he has to work (and cover) for.
There probably isn’t another man around could fit the bill at this club at the moment. Anybody with proper managerial credentials and aspirations wouldn’t put up with any of the ridiculous sh*t from the board. They wouldn’t put up with the false promises and selling players behind their back. They wouldn’t put up with the non existent transfers. They wouldn’t cover up at press conferences. Chances are they’d be off like a shot, or there’d be so much unrest around, the team morale would suffer, the work ethic would drop, and performances would dip. We wouldn’t be top. There would be massive disharmony around the club. We’d basically be what we usually are – a mess.
The reality is that we are run by a set of clowns, and as much as we want them out, they are here at the moment, whether we like it or not. We can’t just pretend that they aren’t here, and that ‘normal’ football management service would be resumed.
So, when you next want to slag him off, think on. Who could’ve done what he has done this season, bearing in mind the idiots he would have to work for, and the constraints placed upon him? Who could’ve done that?
I can’t think of one person who could work for that boss, pretty much create and manage a table topping team with a great work ethic, and still keep team spirit intact, whilst also retaining his dignity.
Whilst he may not be what you want him to be, he is at the very least himself.
Ironically, if he was what a lot of you wanted him to be, then the chances are this club would be in greater turmoil than we are now.
Under the current regime, he’s doing just fine for me.

2:56 PMwell said mate, any one getting on his back needs to seriously have a think about where we could be at this point in the season. i bet anyone would have taken top at the point at the beginning of the season.. who wouldn’t?
Murvar say's:
3:10 PMWell said Ken. Hughton has made the best of a very bad job. Used to be a member of the Socialist Workers Party so he must have mellowed ovr the years. Whether he (and Rotledge) are Premiership quality I doubt, but their jobs are to get us there so we must judge them on thast and that alone.

3:21 PMtotally agree with you i think he is doing a fantastic job, who knows what circus is going on behind his back(my corner shop is probably run better) i think the players need to praised to they might be on big money but they dont want to be in this league either.I dont know about anyone else but when we go a goal down i dont think how many anymore i think now your going to see what we can do. big credit for the team spirit last year we would have crumbled and some.

3:35 PMYou know xxxx all about Hughton, and you know xxxx all about football I’m afraid. Virtualy everything Hughton has done at the club so far, especially his long term decision making, suggests that he will make a good manager.
Andy say's:
4:49 PMhe is exactly what we need – quiet, understated, gets on with the job, knows what we need to do and who we need to sign to get us out of this league, focuses on football not the media. Let’s see if he can manage us in the Premiership, but I say he deserves at least one season and I hope he succeeds (next season aim should be top 12 finish and no more)
bb say's:
9:06 AMaim next season should be to stay up simple as that, talk of top 12 is totally unrealistic
